Naberezhnye Chelny is the second-largest city in the Republic of Tatarstan with a population of more than 522,000. It's situated on the Kama River. The city began to develop in the 1960s when year-round construction of the KAMAZ megafactory commenced. These factories led to sharp population growth and, thus, a boom in housing and infrastructure construction.

In 2012, KAMAZ's 2 millionth truck rolled off the conveyor lines. Somewhere around 200 vehicles are produced every day. The factory plans to produce 100,000 vehicles annually by 2020.

Approximately 45,000 people work in KAMAZ's various divisions and subsidiary companies. A single production facility contains the entire manufacturing process under its roof: ranging from development, modeling, and assembly of vehicles and parts to polishing off finished products and providing services.

Starting in 2010, the factory began to manufacture agricultural and road construction vehicles under the trademark CNH (Case New Holland).

However, KAMAZ made the decision to leave this project as part of its strategy to "cease projects outside the company's primary activities".
