First of all, he was impressed by the architecture, the light, the post-Soviet symbols here and there, and, of course, the people and what they look like — basically, the whole visual aspect of the Moscow Metro.

“I was looking for a photo project that could represent the city in its greater diversity. People who cross paths in the Metro come from every social class," he said.

"It’s the only place in the city you can see this kind of diversity. During rush hour you can go through thousands of people in a few minutes."

"I was amazed by the beauty of the stations, along with people’s style of dress. It reminded me of old classic images, but they were also young people who had just returned from shopping for expensive brands."

Tomer describes the people he met underground as introverted, quiet and thoughtful. Sometimes the only sounds he heard inside the stations were people’s footsteps and the coming and going of trains.

However, when he asked some passengers to pose for portraits, they agreed. What else you can do in the Moscow subway?

“Hopefully the pictures will be a small window to a different reality, and will give people another perspective of daily life in Moscow,” he said.
