Follow the link to learn moreRussian President Vladimir Putin finds it strange that one of the people found guilty of embezzling assets belonging to the state-run timber company Kirovles in the Kirov region was given a suspended sentence while prominent opposition activist Alexei Navalny was sentenced to five years of real prison time in the same case.
"As for the sentences, I do not follow this on a daily basis. It seemed strange to me that one of the defendants in this case, who concluded a plea deal with the investigators [Vyacheslav Opalev], received a suspended sentence of 4.5 years, and the other whom you mentioned [Navalny] five years of real prison time," Putin said when speaking with participants in the Seliger youth camp forum in the Tver region on Friday.
