He said there are presidential term limits, documented in the constitution, and that he thinks compliance with the fundamental law is important.
Putin agreed that the constitution allows his nomination in 2018. "It allows this. But this does not at all mean that I will make such a decision. I will be guided by the general context, by my inner understanding and by my state of mind," Putin said in an interview with the state news agency TASS in Vladivostok on November 13.
"There is so much time ahead. So much water will flow away…" he said.
Putin said he is being guided by "the present-day reality and medium-term estimates." "Clinging to something has no sense, no sense at all, you know. Yes indeed, my new nomination is possible. But whether or not it will be used, I do not know," Putin said.
