Russian military advisors have recorded serious damage caused to the monuments in Palmyra by terrorists, chief of the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, Lt. Gen. Sergei Kuralenko said.
"Russian military advisors, who provided assistance in planning the Palmyra liberation operation, have assessed the current condition of buildings in the old city. During criminal actions by the ISIS terrorists architectural monuments of global significance were largely destroyed. Retreating, the militants have fully mined them," Kuralenko told reporters on March 28.
Russian warplanes carried out no strikes in the districts, where antique architectural monuments are situated, he said. "To rule out any strikes on Palmyra historical monuments and civilian facilities, the forces of the special operations have adjusted the actions by the aviation," Kuralenko said.
