A number of countries, among them the United States, have been bombing the territories of Syria and Iraq, and the bombardments may happen in other Middle Eastern countries in the future, the Kremlin administration head continued.
"France has recently joined this activity, Australia and a number of other countries have declared similar intentions," Ivanov said. "Yet I would like to point out one essential aspect. These actions are being taken in evasion of international law. One of the two conditions - either a resolution passed by the UN Security Council or a request for military assistance made by the country whose territory is bombed - needs to be complied with so that international law is honored," Ivanov said.
"Hence, we can say that terrorism should definitely be fought, international efforts should be pooled, but international legal norms should also be observed. Here is another essential difference between our approach and the approach of our partners: they are not honoring international law but we are," the Kremlin administration head noted in conclusion.
