Over 50 wildfires raging in Russian Far East

Over 90 wildfires were registered in the past 24 hours in the Russian Far East, of which 70 are in the Khabarovsk Territory, the Forestry Department for the Far Eastern Federal District reported on Monday.

"Over 2,600 hectares was burned by wildfires in the past 24 hours. Twenty-two wildfires have been extinguished in the forests of the Far Eastern Federal District. Another 16 fires have been contained," the report says.

According to the agency, 55 wildfires are now raging in five regions of the Russian Far East, including 39 are in the Khabarovsk Territory, 10 in Sakhalin, three in Yakutia, two in the Primorye Territory, and one in Priamurye.

Over 1,400 people with some 370 machines and 15 aircraft are fighting the fires.
