Follow the link to learn moreA NATO base is out of the question on the territory of sovereign Russia. NATO personnel will not be stationed here either, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin told Rossiya-24 on Monday.
"The [transit center in Ulyanovsk] will have only Russian operators," he said. "They will seal their containers and send them [from Afghanistan]. Transport companies will be Russian; planes will be Russian and trains will be Russian. There will be full customs control, or otherwise we will give no permit."
"Our customs service will exercise control over the transit. Besides, there will be control by the Federal Drug Control Service. The cargo will be sent from Afghanistan, which means we must make sure it does not contain heroin or other illegal items," Rogozin said.
"We have formed a task group to support the pullout from Afghanistan and to make money," he said.
