Follow the link to learn moreRussian President Vladimir Putin has signed the anti-Magnistky bill that will ban adoptions of Russan children by U.S. families. This means that the U.S.-Russia adoption agreement will be canceled in January 2013.
Yesterday Putin said about his plan to sign the bill.
"I intend to sign the law you have just mentioned as well as a presidential decree changing the procedure of helping orphaned children, children left without parental care, and especially children who are in a disadvantageous situation due to their health problems," Putin told the State Council.
"I so far see no reasons why I should not sign it, although I should look at the final version and weigh everything again," he added.
The anti-Magnitsky bill (known as the Dima Yakovlev bill) came as Russia's response after U.S. President Barack Obama signed the Magnistky Act on Dec. 14.
