A postgraduate student from the Moscow Conservatory, Alexander Khubeev, has been voted best young composer at a leading international contest.
Khubeev, chosen by a panel of top world composers, won a 5,000 Euro (£3,675) cash award and international recognition at the annual Gaudeamus competition in Amsterdam, Colta.ru news portal reported.
The jury, which consisted of famous composers including Calliope Tsoupaki of Greece, Belgium's Stefan Prins and Raphael Cendo from France, praised Khubeev's talent. "Alexander is an original and inventive composer. He achieved a perfect balance between his sonic universe and written realization. He has a brilliant way of expanding advanced techniques, and creates a mysterious and profound sound-world. We wish him a brilliant career," the jury said.
The 29 year-old Russian composer is a native of Perm, where he attended music school. He graduated in 2011 from the Faculty of Composition at the Moscow Conservatory.
