This art form seems to have been forgotten, for which reason RBTH put together a project about Russian illustrators. Marat Morik's charm is that he's not just an illustrator, but a graffiti artist.

In other words, over time many of his pencil illustrations experience a new lease of life on the walls of buildings.

Although he employs statics and geometry, Marat's work is dynamic. Like any graffiti artist, Marat is also fascinated by fonts and typefaces.

Marat says that usually he draws inspiration from pictures, scenes of everyday life and images from films.

However he thinks that there is always something to strive for: «Most of all I am inspired by the works of artists who are way cooler than me.»

Describing his style in 5 words Marat is resourceful: «I mix the volumetric with the flat, the profiled with the abstract.»
