Instaweek: Russian artist creates amazingly realistic embroidering

Works that take embroidering to a new level.
By Ksenia Isaeva, RBTH

Lisa Smirnova is a Russian artist. Upon taking a quick glance at her art you would never guess that it was made with a needle and thread.

Although this work may look simple at first sight, in reality it takes lots of patience and skill.

Her embroideries are colorful, complex and depict various subjects. These include a close-up of the Russian writer Sergei Dovlatov...

... a tattooed man

... a heart pictured in a bouquet of flowers...

... and even this striking rabbit portrait...

... or the American writer Charles Bukowski.

Recently Lisa Smirnova worked on a fashion collection together with Russian designer Olga Glagoleva. Impressionist color spots were embroidered on clothes. Some pieces took 100 hours of work.

On occasion Lisa holds master classes in Moscow and St. Petersburg. However, to be inspired all you need to do is take a glimpse at her other works on Instagram
