Follow the link to learn moreThe Federation Council approved a ban on smoking in public places on Wednesday.
Starting from June 1, 2013, it is prohibited to smoke at schools, universities and other educational establishments, healthcare, culture and sports facilities, governmental buildings (including the State Duma and the Federation Council), departments on youth affairs, workplaces, in city and suburban transport, in the metro, at railroad terminals and airports, in elevators and on apartment bloc stairs, on children's playgrounds, at gasoline stations, on bus stops and some other places.
It is not prohibited to smoke in private vehicles. Special places will be assigned for smoking at enterprises. The State Duma passed the law in the third and final reading on Feb. 12.
