Follow the link to learn moreFormer CIA employee Edward Snowden is seeking advice on the possibility of gaining asylum in Russia, and he will decide whether to apply to the Russian authorities for asylum within the next few days.
"He is actively seeking my advice now. He will make this decision within the next few days," lawyer Anatoly Kucherena, who is also a member of the Russian Public Chamber, told Interfax.Kucherena and other human rights activists met with Snowden in the transit area of Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport last Friday.
Snowden seeks political asylum in Russia
"I have explained to him the law on refugees, the president's decree on political asylum and the government's resolution on temporary asylum. He will make his decision soon," the Russian lawyer said.
Snowden can apply to the Russian authorities for asylum only by submitting the appropriate request to the Federal Migration Service, Kucherena said.
"Snowden asked me questions regarding current Russian laws. I explained everything to him. I think that he will make this decision today or tomorrow," Kucherena said
