Follow the link to learn moreThe orbital life of Russia's decommissioned satellite Molniya-3-45 ended on December 31, one day earlier than planned, a spokesman for the Information and Analytical Center of the Vympel corporation, a member of the Almaz-Antey weapons producer, told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.
"According to our calculations, the satellite is expected to enter the dense layers of the atmosphere and break apart over the South Atlantic, approximately at latitude 40 degrees, at around 10:00 a.m. Moscow time," the spokesman said.
Small parts of the satellite may fall to the Earth.
Similar information was provided by the U.S. Space Surveillance Network.
According to Vympel's tentative forecast, the Molniya-3-45 satellite was expected to fall to the Earth on January 1, 2014.
