Follow the link to learn moreState Duma Chairman and head of the Russian Historical Society Sergey Naryshkin has said that Russia has always supported the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), whose work is aimed bringing nations closer, and intends to pursue this line in the future.
"We would like to hope that the present-day world has learned the main lessons of the past, and that the task of those responsible for culture will always be that of bringing peoples closer, not pitting them against each other. At least, the work of organizations such as UNESCO clearly testifies to that," Naryshkin said at a roundtable titled "The First World War: Culture and Memory" held in Paris.
The Russian delegation led by Naryshkin is on a working visit to France to attend the events on the occasion of the 60th anniversary since the USSR joined the UNESCO.
This work deserves most serious support, the speaker said. "At any rate, our country has been providing it for the past six decades and will continue doing so in the future," the politician said.
