"We want independence. Federalization does not suit us," he told the press in Donetsk.
He said the self-proclaimed republic has sufficient resources to exist independently. "We have ample mineral resources and recreation zones. We are a self-sufficient region," he said.
He added that the militia launched a counter offense on Saturday evening.
"We launched an offensive on the Amvrosiyivka military force yesterday and are pressing the enemy out. Concurrently, we are putting the necessary infrastructure in place. Two military hospitals have been set up for the militia and civilians," Zakharchenko said.
He said the practice of displaying damaged Ukrainian military hardware on the central square of Donetsk will continue.
"Today's display aims to demonstrate that whatever arrives here from Kyiv will end up on the central square," Zakharchenko said.
