Follow the link to learn moreThe European Union will contribute to the implementation of the gas supply agreements reached by Russia, Ukraine and the European Commission, French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel said.
According to a communique released by the Elysse Palace, the leaders of France and Germany said the EU will play its role in the implementation of this agreement."
Merkel and Hollande reiterated that they expect other partners in the G7 and the IMF to participate in this process.
The Elysse Palace said Hollande and Merkel had met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Thursday and the four leaders had hailed the outcome of the negotiations on the supply of Russian gas to Ukraine conducted with EU mediation, the communique says.
According to earlier reports, Russia, Ukraine and the European Commission on Thursday signed a binding protocol on the conditions of resumption of the supply of Russian gas to Ukraine for the period until late March 2015.
