Follow the link to learn moreRussia will ban poultry from the United States from December 5, meaning that U.S. products currently subject to a ban cannot return to the Russian market after the food embargo has been lifted unless violations of Russian veterinary standards have been put right.
Rosselkhoznador, the Russian sanitation watchdog, said its deputy head, Nikolai Vlasov, in a communication with Jane Doherty, the international coordination executive at the Food Safety and Inspection Service's (FSIS), referred to the U.S. veterinary service's "established practice of not providing materials on the elimination of a significant quantity of violations of Customs Union and Russian legislation."
Rosselkhoznador informed the FSIS of the violations in due time. This year alone it notified the service of 54 violations and has received responses to just three of them.
In addition, the food safety control system at U.S. poultry factory farms in October this year underwent changes which the Russian watchdog believes are capable of impairing the safety of U.S. poultry products. The U.S. veterinary service did not inform Rosselkhoznadzor of the changes in due time.
