Follow the link to learn moreUkraine's Verkhovna Rada has ratified the agreement between Ukraine and the Netherlands prolonging until August 1, 2016 the agreement between the countries on the international mission for the protection of the investigation into the Malaysian Boeing crash on July 28, 2014.
A total of 261 parliamentarians voted for the law on July 15.
"A comprehensive and unbiased investigation into the crash of the Malaysia Airlines plane is extremely important to us now," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said, presenting the bill at the parliament session.
Klimkin said that an independent criminal investigation is now ongoing into the plane crash and that a special group led by the Dutch authorities is functioning.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko submitted a draft law prolonging the agreement between Ukraine and the Netherlands on the international mission to protect the investigation into the Malaysian Boeing crash in late June. According to the explanatory note attached to the bill, ratification of this agreement will promote further practical involvement of the Dutch side in the investigation.
As reported, a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 with the flight number MH17, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, crashed in the Donetsk region on July 17, 2014. All 283 passengers and 15 crewmembers were killed. The airliner was presumably shot down with a missile, but official conclusions made by investigators have no been published yet.
