Follow the link to learn moreThe Russian president's special representative for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, has ruled out the possibility of conducting an operation in Afghanistan similar to the Russian Aerospace Forces' ongoing air campaign in Syria.
"Conducting a similar military operation in Afghanistan is ruled out. The country is now going through the acute stage of the civil war. That is why, naturally, what the authorities of Afghanistan need first and foremost is military hardware," Kabulov said in an interview with Profil magazine.
"Afghanistan has three problems - weak administrative governance at the local level, weak armed forces - say hello to the Americans - and the absence of any economy - again say hello to the Americans. Today only one industry in Afghanistan is functioning in a stable manner - it is the drug industry. But all the rest is not working at all," Kabulov said.
"GDP growth by 12 percent is an inflated figure. The economy was growing when the 150,000-strong contingent of foreign forces, which required supplies, transportation, etc., was deployed in the country. The forces were withdrawn, and everything collapsed," he added.
