Follow the link to learn moreAlmost 2,000 Syrian citizens are seeking temporary asylum in Russia because of the events happening in their home country, Federal Migration Service head Konstantin Romodanovsky has said.
"The situation in the Middle East and North Africa has not spared us. Because of the events in Syria, the number of citizens of that country seeking temporary asylum in Russia is nearing 2,000," Romodanovsky said at a joint meeting of the Council of the Heads of CIS Migration Authorities in St. Petersburg on Nov. 26.
More than 10.3 million foreign citizens, 86 percent of them from CIS countries, were staying in Russia as of November 1, he said.
The Council of the Heads of CIS Migration Authorities was founded in October 2007 to provide stability and security on external borders and to regulate migration processes in CIS member states.
