Russia does not mind international partnerships and associations but there is a need for unified rules of economic conduct amid declining global trade indicators and high volatility of currencies, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at a meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government.
"Serious economic challenges persist, global trade and investment activity indicators keep on lowering, and volatility of currencies, at least many currencies, is high amid sharp fluctuations of prices on energy resources and raw materials," Medvedev said.
"Attempts to upset the existent architecture of global trade relations and to provoke fragmentation of world economic relations, the global economic landscape, in particular, by building so-called exclusive relationships and various kinds of partnerships additionally complicate the situation," the prime minister said.
Russia is not opposed to such kinds of international unions but there is a need for unified rules of conduct in the economic field, the prime minister said.
"I would like to straightforwardly underline that our country is not an opponent of partnerships of the Trans-Pacific Partnership kind or other associations but we would like to understand what will happen to global trade and what will be the fate of the World Trade Organization which all of us joined and which provides unified, universal regulations. This is of paramount importance for everyone living in a predictable world, the world with unified rules of conduct in the economic area," Medvedev said.
