Follow the link to learn moreA Soyuz-2.1a launch vehicle carrying the supply spacecraft Progress of the new MS series has been launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome, an Interfax-AVN correspondent reported from Mission Control on Dec. 21.
"The launch of the launch vehicle carrying the Progress-MS spacecraft took place at the estimated time, at 11:44 a.m. Moscow time," the reporter said, commenting on the launch broadcast.
After being taken into orbit, the Progress-MS will stay in autonomous flight for two days and will dock with the International Space Station (ISS) on December 23. It will take to the ISS some 2,500 tonnes of various cargo, including fuel, oxygen, and 'dry' cargo.
It was the first launch of a Progress-MS spacecraft, which has replaced the Progress M-M. It is expected to work for some ten years.
