"The Russian Investigative Committee's investigations directorate for the Republic of Crimea presented an indictment against Feodosia city administration head Dmitry Shchepetkov and his deputy Makar Makarov. Depending on their roles, they have been charged with committing crimes covered by Russian Criminal Code Article 30 Part 3 and Article 290 Part 6 (attempt to accept a major bribe) and Article 291.1 Part 4 (mediation in major bribery)," it said.
The investigation determined that Shchepetkov and Makarov demanded a bribe from an individual businessman, who had filed out an application earlier on extending a land lease contract.
"Shchepetkov and Makarov, guided by mercenary motives, demanded that the businessman [pay] a $300,000 bribe for resolving the issue of the lease contract extension. On December 21, 2015, two go-betweens, acting at the behest of Shchepetkov and Makarov, received $150,000 to [pay] part of the bribe to the administration head and his deputy," the Investigative Committee said.
The court ruled to grant the investigation's request on taking Shchepetkov into pretrial custody.
