"Yes, [the Russian army] will be re-armed before 2020. This is why we should consider loading our companies with something else. This is why practically every holding company is tasked with bringing the proportion of civilian products to 50% by 2020," Chemezov said on Sergei Brilyov's News on Saturday program on the Rossiya One (VGTRK) television channel on Dec. 26.
This is done to prevent a situation similar to the one in the aftermath of the breakup of the Soviet Union when highly technological defense companies made pots and pans and so on, Chemezov said.
"To prevent this happening, already we are making preparations for our companies to manufacture civilian products, highly technological civilian products," the Rostec chief said.
The state corporation's development program has been approved for the period to 2025, he said.
"The re-armament program runs until 2020, but we went further, until 2025, in order to see what awaits us next. Of course, we probably can hardly expect such a volume of orders in future," Chemezov said.
