"We firmly support the efforts by the Egyptian government and law enforcement agencies to resolutely repel extremists of all hues," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary posted on its website on Jan. 9.
At present, there are no organized Russian tourists in Egypt, the ministry said.
On January 8, two people armed with knives attacked foreign tourists at Bella Vista Hotel in the Egyptian resort town of Hurghada. Two men, an Austrian and a Swede, have reportedly been injured as a result. One assailant was killed and another apprehended during the police operation, the Egyptian Interior Ministry said.
