Moscow is hopeful that Washington will pursue a more pragmatic approach towards Russian-U.S. relations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said.

"We hope that U.S. approaches to relations with Russia will evolve towards a greater pragmatism and reasonableness," Lavrov said in an interview with Italian magazine Limes.

The text of the interview has been published on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website.

"Today, we are facing a large number of common tasks, including the fight against international terrorism," the minister said.

"We, as major powers with nuclear weapons, continue to carry special responsibility for maintaining strategic stability," Lavrov said.
