Follow the link to learn moreThe first case of Zika virus importation has been registered in Russia, the press service of the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) told Interfax on Feb. 15.
"The patient is now in an infection disease hospital's unit; her condition is fair. Family members, who have had contact [with the patient], are under medical surveillance," it said.
The woman was on vacation to the Dominican Republic. She had no clinical symptoms after the return to Moscow but her condition deteriorated, she ran a fever and had a rash on her skin several days later.
"The Zika virus was detected in biological fluids of the patient in a laboratory screening by use of a domestic testing system," Rospotrebnadzor said.
