The Kremlin is concerned about growing tensions on the Turkish-Syrian border and views the shelling of Syrian territory by Turkey as unacceptable.
"The Kremlin is concerned about growing tensions on the Syrian-Turkish border," presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Feb. 20.
This issue was addressed at a meeting of the Russian Security Council permanent members hosted by President Vladimir Putin.
"On the whole, Russia views such trans-border shelling by Turkish artillery upon Syrian territory as unacceptable," he said.
In commenting on French President Francois Hollande's statement on the danger of a possible open armed conflict between Russia and Turkey, Peskov said, "The very way the issue has been brought up is somewhat inappropriate."
"Because you should understand that there are Syrian armed forces there, which, in addition to the Kurds staying in that district, are being shelled as well," Peskov added.
