A representative of the defense attache's staff from the U.S. Embassy to Moscow was invited to the Russian Defense Ministry on February 24, the Russian ministry said.

"In furtherance of the agreement between the Russian and U.S. presidents on the cessation of hostilities in Syria, he was presented with a map of operative situation in the Syrian Arab Republic," the ministry's press service and information department said in the report.

The joint statement of the United States and Russia released on February 22 envisages the exchange of military information regarding the provision of truce in Syria.

"In order to implement the cessation of hostilities in a manner that promotes stability and protects those parties participating in it, the Russian Federation and the United States are prepared to work together to exchange pertinent information," the joint statement said.

According to the document, the sides would exchange "aggregated data that delineates territory where groups that have indicated their commitment to and acceptance of the cessation of hostilities are active."
