Moscow doubts Japan to become UN Security Council member

Foreign Ministry spokesman says Japan "lacks aspire for an independent role in foreign politics".

Moscow doubts that there are reasons for Japan to aspire to become a UN Security Council permanent member if the council is reformed, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"As a country that makes decisions even regarding bilateral visits only after pressure is put on it or, on the contrary, after pressure is relieved [...], how can such a country lacking independence aspire for an independent role in foreign politics by occupying a seat in the Security Council?" Zakharova said on RT.
