Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed into law a bill banning the screening of films produced in Russia starting from 2014, the Verkhovna Rada reports.
In particular, the Rada website section recording the passage of bills says that the legislation titled 'On amending the law of Ukraine 'On Cinematography' (regarding films produced by the aggressor state)' adopted by the parliament on March 29 was returned from the presidential office with the president's signature on April 20, 2016.
The presidential website has not yet reported any information on the matter.
It was reported earlier that the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada had banned the showing of films produced and/or first shown in Russia after January 1, 2014. The legislation was passed by 237 votes at the end of March. By passing this legislation, the parliamentarians extended the ban on the showing of films produced by individuals or legal entities of the "aggressor state" and popularizing Russian security agencies to all films produced in Russia after January 1, 2014 and/or shown first after January 1, 2014.
It was reported on March 11 that the Ukrainian state film agency (Derzhkino) had banned the showing of nearly 500 Russian films.
"The law has imperfections that complicate its enforcement or even make it impossible. But the work is ongoing: more than 430 films are banned now," Pylyp Illenko, the Derzhkino chief, said in an interview published in the official newspaper Uryadovy Kuryer (Government Courier).
