Russia and China see both the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) as closed structures, which may try to replace the World Trade Organization (WTO) in the future, Sergei Naryshkin, the speaker of the State Duma (Russian lower house of parliament) said on May 5.
“We shared [with our Chinese counterparts] our positions on the formation of several regional trade agreements such as TPP and TTIP,” Naryshkin said. “In our opinion, they are closed structures. Moreover, the formation of the agreements is in the atmosphere of secrecy. These structures, according to our estimates, will be trying to substitute the rules and regulations of the WTO. This is something we don’t agree with.”
