Russia will take every necessary step to ensure and preserve the strategic balance of forces worldwide, Russian President Vladimir Putin said after the United States launched a missile defense system in Romania.
"We said this many times, we warned but no one wants to listen, no one has reacted duly, seriously, professionally to our requests for cooperation in this area. Well, we will work on the premise of what there is, we will work on the basis of the realities that are emerging globally in the sphere of providing security," Putin said at the close of a military meeting on May 13.
He added: "And of course, we will undertake whatever is necessary on our part to ensure and preserve this strategic balance of forces, which is the most reliable guarantor against large-scale military conflicts."
