The Russian ambassador to North Korea and the Russian Foreign Ministry's central office have been informed about a situation surrounding the detention of the Russian yacht Elfin by a North Korean coast guard ship in the Sea of Japan, Igor Agafonov, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry mission in Vladivostok, told Interfax on May 14.
"The necessary work is being done. The Foreign Ministry's central office and the Russian ambassador to the DPRK have been informed of the matter," Agafonov said.
Russian diplomats have yet to find out the reasons for the Russian yacht's detention, he said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry mission in Vladivostok is maintaining contact with the marine rescue and coordination center and the North Korean consulate general in Vladivostok, Agafonov said.
It had been reported earlier that a North Korean coast guard ship had intercepted the Elfin, a Russian yacht with four crewmembers on board, and was towing it to the North Korean shore.
The Russian yacht was on its way back to Vladivostok from South Korea's Busan, where it had taken part in an international regatta.
