Follow the link to learn morePresident Vladimir Putin has signed into law a bill that gradually raises the pension age for state officials.
The new law takes effect from January 1, 2017, according the government's legal information website.
The law stipulates "a gradual increase of the retirement age at which point Russian civilian public servants, municipal servants, federal, regional and municipal officials are entitled to an annuity pension (a monthly payment in addition to an annuity pension)."
The original version of the bill called for raising retirement ages to 65 years for both men and women. But a profile State Duma committee - the Local Governance Committee - approved an amendment reducing the ultimate retirement age for women to 63 years.
The law also applies to elected officials.
