Moscow is hopeful that Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi's upcoming visit to Russia will help change the negative tendency in Russian-Italian trade.
"Premier Renzi is expected to come to the forum in St. Petersburg. Russian-Italian contacts will be held. They will be aimed at mending the situation with our trade turnover," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Meshkov told the general assembly of Italian-Russian Chamber of Commerce members on May 31.
Italian Ambassador in Moscow, Cesare Maria Ragaglini, for his part, said that a representative economic delegation should accompany Renzi during his visit to the St. Petersburg forum, where Italian companies would be represented at the highest level.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) will be held on June 16-18.
