Vladivostok Mayor Igor Pushkaryov is suspected of causing damage worth over 160 million rubles ($239,000) to the federal and municipal budgets, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) reported on June 1.
"Based on information possessed by the Russian Federal Security Service, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against head of the Vladivostok city administration Igor Pushkaryov on June 1, 2016 on suspicion of committing crimes covered by Russian Criminal Code Article 204, Part 2, and Article 285, Part 3," the FSB said on its website.
"The official is suspected of involvement in corruption activities associated with illegally utilizing federal and municipal budget funds and lobbying business organizations' interests. The damage from the illegal activities revealed [by the investigators] exceeds 160 million rubles," it said.
Investigative activities under the criminal case are ongoing, and a decision on a pretrial restrictive measure for Pushkaryov has yet to be made, it said.
