The International Olympic Committee (IOC) backed the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) decision to extend the sanctions against Russian track and field athletes, but recognized Russian Olympic Committee's good work in fighting doping, IOC President Thomas Bach said at a press conference in Lausanne following the IOC summit.
On June 17, the IAAF Council adopted the decision to extend the sanctions imposed on the Russian track-and-field athletes.
The Russian Sports Ministry expressed its disappointment with the IAAF's decision.
