Follow the link to learn moreThe Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has said it detained a Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) agent who gathered military intelligence in the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR).
"The Russian Federal Security Service has revealed as a Ukrainian Security Service agent and detained in Russia Ukrainian citizen Artyom Shestakov born in 1984 working as an interpreter at the Special Monitoring Mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Ukraine," FSB public relations center has said.
According to FSB, Shestakov, an employee of the OSCE mission in Lugansk, was recruited to the SBU undercover unit in the summer of 2015 in Kiev under the assumed name of Svarog and conveyed military intelligence and, on instructions from the Ukrainian military intelligence service, information on the routes of movement and telephone numbers of one of Cossack leaders, Pavel Dryomov, later killed by the Ukrainian intelligence services (his car was blown up on December 12, 2015, near the city of Pervomaisk - TASS).
"Taking into account the fact that Shestakov’s espionage activities have not damaged Russia’s security, in accordance with applicable law, he was allowed to return to Ukrainian territory, however, the SBU informant has been banned from entering our country in the future," FSB said.
