Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan will exert efforts to develop the North-South transportation corridor, the presidents of Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan - Vladimir Putin, Hassan Rouhani and Ilham Aliev - said in a declaration, which they signed after the trilateral summit in Baku on August 8.
"The sides will take effective measures to develop the transport and communications infrastructure with an aim to expand the existing opportunities in the transportation of passengers and freights via the North-South international transportation corridor," the declaration said.
The sides also agreed to contribute to developing new projects designed to connect railways within the framework of this transportation corridor. Besides, the three countries intend to study a possibility of coordinating and adopting a Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea. The declaration stresses that Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan will deepen cooperation in energy and transport and will support the idea of connecting their energy systems for exchanging energy.
The sides welcomed the joint action plan on Iran’s nuclear program and called for its full and steady implementation.
