Follow the link to learn moreWhistleblower to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Russian athlete Yulia Stepanova said her e-mail and the account, with which she reports her location to WADA, were hacked, ESPN reported on August 13th.
"Yuliya's e-mail account was hacked, followed a few hours later by a hack of her ADAMS (Anti-Doping Administration and Management System) account, i.e. her anti-doping control account at WADA,'' said a Swiss organization supporting Stapanova.
"WADA confirmed that her account was the only athlete account that was hacked, which makes clear that Yuliya was victim of an attempt to uncover her whereabouts.''
In early 2013, Stepanova was disqualified for two years for breaching anti-doping regulations, and the suspension term expired in late January, 2015.
In December 2014, Russian 800 meters runner Yulia Stepanova and her husband fell in media limelight after a series of German documentaries, on doping abuse in Russian sports.
The German television channel ARD’s two-part documentary, entitled Geheimsache Doping (Secret Doping Case) claimed that some Russian athletes had systematically taken on instructions from their coaches.
