Salt was included in the list of products that are prohibited from being imported to Russia from countries that have imposed sanctions against the country, according to the Russian government.
Salt (including table and denatured salt), pure sodium chloride, salt dissolved or not dissolved in the water, sea water were added to the Government decree on the food embargo.
The decision comes into force on Nov. 1, 2016.
Moscow came under sanctions from the United States and many European countries after events in Crimea and Ukraine in 2014.
As countermeasures, on Aug. 6, 2014, Russia imposed a ban on imports of beef, pork, poultry, fish, cheeses, fruit, vegetables and dairy products from Australia, Canada, the European Union, the United States and Norway. On July 1, the European Union extended the sectoral economic sanctions against Russia until Jan. 31, 2017. Reciprocally, Moscow has also lengthened the tit-for-tat embargo imposed two years ago.
