"On Sept. 21, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, who is taking part in the session of the UN General Assembly in New York, held a series of contacts with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry," the statement said.
"During a phone conversation, which occurred on the American side’s initiative, and the meeting that followed as part of delegations, problems of Syrian settlement continued to be discussed," it said.
Lavrov and Kerry already held a bilateral meeting in New York on Sept. 20 prior to the meeting of the International Syria Support Group. Before that, the top diplomats of Russia and the United States agreed in Geneva a package of documents called upon to establish the regime of cessation of hostilities in Syria.
