Imports of passenger cars in Russia in August 2016 amounted to 21,100 units, which is 5.3 percent more than in the same period last year, according to Avtostat analytical agency.
The most popular car brand in terms of the import volume - Japanese Toyota - 8,200 cars in August, which 3.5-fold higher than a year earlier. At the same time, four Toyota cars occupy first positions in the list of most popular models - Toyota RAV4, Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Toyota Corolla.
Lexus is in the second place - 2,900 cars were imported in August, which is 8.6-fold higher than in August 2015. At the same time, three Lexus cars (LX, RX, NX) are included the top 10 most imported cars.
Mercedes-Benz closes the top three leaders among manufacturers with 2,600 imported cars in August - 3.5 percent less than a year ago. Two models - GLE-Class and GLC-Class - are also in the top 10.
According to the Association of European Businesses (AEB), sales of passenger cars and LCV (light commercial vehicles) in Russia fell in annual terms by 18 percent in August 2016 to 113,740 cars.
