The plant of Ford carmaker (Ford Motor Company) in the city of Vsevolzhsk (Leningrad Region) "will halt production from Nov. 14 until the end of New Year holidays" (Jan. 8, 2017), Artem Yashenkov, a representative of the plant’s trade union told TASS.
The decision was taken following economic indicators and instability on the market, he said.
Earlier it was reported that the plant will lay off 88 workers by mutual consent of the parties and plans to lay off 130 workers next year.
The Ford plant is a joint venture of Ford Motor Company and Russia’s Ford Sollers in Vsevolzhsk. It produces Focus and Mondeo models. In 2014, the plant switched to one-shift schedule. Also 700 workers were laid off by mutual consent of the parties. According to the Association of European Business (AEB) in 2014, sales of Ford Focus fell by 58 percent in comparison with 2013, sales of Ford Mondeo were down by 47 percent.
