International Swimming Federation (FINA) has named by Russians Svetlana Romashina and Natalya Ishchenko the best athletes in synchronized swimming in 2016, the press service of the federation said in a report.
At the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio, Romashina and Ishchenko won two golds as duet and in groups. They carried the Russian state standard at the closing ceremony of the Games.
The coach of the duet, Tatian Danchenko, was named the best synchro coach in 2016.
Team Russia, heavily reduced in the run-up to the Rio Games after the disqualification of a number of athletes, took the fourth position in terms of the overall number of medals. It won 19 golds, 18 silvers and 19 bronzes. Of the 280 athletes on the team, medals were taken by 107.
