Third of Russians want female president to be elected in next 10-15 years

Most Russians (77 percent) approve of women's engagement in politics, the Levada Center told Interfax, referring to its poll.

The support was voiced by 66  percent of men and 86  percent of women.

A fifth (20 percent) of 800 respondents older than 18 polled in 137 populated localities in 48 regions on February 19-24 said they did not approve of this.

Two-thirds (64 percent) of respondents would like women to hold top-ranking positions in Russia together with men (50 percent of men and 78 percent of women). Twenty-eight percent raised objections.

A third (32 percent) of respondents want Russia to have a female president in the next 10-15 years (21 percent of men, and 44  percent of women). About a half (49 percent) do not want this to happen.

The correlation was 46  percent to 42  percent in 2014, the sociologists said.
