The Unknown War: Family stories of RBTH editors

Our colleagues share their family war stories
By Pavel Inzhelevsky, Anna Levicheva

Victory Day (May 9) marks the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in the Second World War (also known as the Great Patriotic War).

It is celebrated to commemorate the 28 million (according to some estimates) children, parents, spouses and friends killed in the Soviet Union during World War II.

It is hard to find a family in Russia which was not affected by the war . Everyone has relatives killed, injured or missing during those 4 years of struggle .

On the eve of the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, we asked our colleagues to share their family war stories with us.
